Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center Expansion Project - Liberty Township

The Challenge
Installing more than 100 light pole foundations at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center’s Liberty Campus, was a daunting undertaking. With the campus remaining fully operational throughout construction, the project had to be completed in carefully planned phases, coordinated between the local Pole Base producer, Bell Precast, and the electrical contractor, Archiable Electric Company. A site lighting solution with optimal installation flexibility was needed to minimize site disruptions and keep construction timelines on schedule.

The Solution
Ohio Pole Base producer Bell Precast manufactured and supplied 105 built-to-spec precast Pole Base foundations for lighting throughout the new parking areas and surrounding campus infrastructure, including the new helicopter landing pad.
For the installation, Electrical contractor Archiable Electric Company placed all 105 Pole Base foundations with a four-person crew, a skid steer, and a forklift. For Archiable’s Project Supervisor Jimmy Jones, the labor savings made the biggest impact.
“If we didn’t have Pole Base products, we would have two guys per base spending all day pouring concrete, tying rebar, and building foundations. The labor savings on a job by using Pole Base is really the biggest thing for us.”
This was Jones’ first project using Pole Base—and after experiencing the speed and efficiency firsthand, he doesn't plan on going back to cast-in-place foundations anytime soon.

The Outcome
Now complete, the project features:
105 Pole Base light pole foundations
Each base finished with a smooth texture for a clean, consistent appearance
Two foundation sizes: 6 ft 6 in x 24 in (1.9 m x 609 mm) and 8 ft 6 in x 24 in (2.6 m x 609 mm)
Site lighting installations throughout parking lot areas, walkways, and the helicopter landing pad
